Mothers

a movie by Birgit Bergmann und Oliver Werani

SYNOPSIS

In ten kitchen conversations, mums talk openly, honestly and bluntly.

Only women talk about their views on motherhood.
In addition to the classic couple constellation, single parents, a woman with a disability, a lesbian couple and a mother who has fulfilled her dream of being a mother without a partner have their say.

The film touches on various moments of motherhood, starting with the planned or unplanned child, through the birth and physical changes to the question of whether a woman feels like a good mother.

The women are very different and yet they are united by the fact that motherhood is often perceived as a major challenge.

A mother regrets a slap she gave her child, while another talks about her postnatal depression, which almost drove her to suicide. Two grandmothers reflect on motherhood, while young mothers philosophise about the compatibility of work and motherhood.

The result is a colourful journey through motherhood that makes you cry, laugh and think.
